Why We Love Restylane- Celebrating 25 Years!

Restylane® Turns 25!

Restylane® has been helping people feel more confident in their appearance since its global launch in September 1996. Galderma, the world’s largest independent dermatology company, recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Restylane filler portfolio, an admired and innovative range of advanced injectables that helped change the medical aesthetic landscape.

Celebrating a Huge Milestone

”As the original stabilized HA filler,

Restylane helped redefine the aesthetics space,” said Carrie Caulkins, Vice President of Marketing, Medical Aesthetics at Galderma. ”Its continuing success is based on innovation and unceasing clinical research and development driven by consumer needs.”

With 25 years on the global market, practitioners worldwide continue to embrace the Restylane family of products, she added. ”It’s a huge milestone for Galderma that we’re celebrating globally. Restylane has delivered high satisfaction and successful results among patients since the beginning. Our customers know that with Restylane in their toolkit they have a safe and predictable product.”

The Restylane family of products is also the gold standard among patients, she noted. ”95% (60/63) of patients would recommend the products to a friend one month after treatment.*1 The Restylane brand has an average patient improvement of 94% at one month based on 16 studies.2 With Restylane, our customers know they will get individualized, natural results that provide long-term satisfaction and leave their patients filled with confidence.”3,4

With seven products and over 50 million treatments worldwide and counting, the Restylane family of hyaluronic acid (HA)-based dermal fillers is a diverse range of dermal fillers in the U.S., thanks to two complimentary gel technologies, NASHA® and XpresHAn, allowing for personalized and targeted treatments and injector excellency.

”Development never stops, and the Restylane family of products is constantly evolving to match both aesthetic professional and patient needs, and to keep up with the ever-changing trends within the aesthetics market,” expressed Ms. Caulkins. ”With our FDA approvals in recent years — such as Restylane® Kysse for lips, Restylane® Defyne for chin, and our newest dermal filler, Restylane® Contour for cheeks — each new indication of Restylane serves a unique purpose, allowing patients to achieve balance in the full face. Each Restylane launch is more successful than the last, showing the ongoing trust and loyalty both aesthetic professionals and patients have in the brand. We are excited for aesthetic professionals to offer their patients new options for natural-looking results.”

How Restylane Keeps Up with the Emerging Patient Trend for Natural-Looking Results

”One of the biggest trends we’re seeing among patients is the strong desire for natural-looking results, and patients wanting to refresh their look while still staying true to themselves,” said Ms. Caulkins. ”Restylane’s XpresHAn Technology is a smooth, flexible injectable HA gel that delivers on this patient need.”5

XpresHAn Technology helps support facial expressions and maintains the face’s natural movement.6 The technology, and the accompanying proprietary manufacturing process, underlies Restylane® Contour for cheeksRestylane® Refyne, which treats moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds; Restylane® Defyne to treat deep facial wrinkles and folds, as well as chin retrusion; and Restylane® Kysse, the first lip filler that offers flexible movement and natural-looking volume. Ms. Caulkins noted, ”This truly sets Restylane apart from other competitors on the market, especially with the latest approval of Restylane® Contour, which provides flexible movement to the midface area to maintain one’s natural dynamic expressions.6,7 It’s all about Volume Out, Contour In!”

Continuing to Push the Full-Face Narrative

”I like the ability to treat the entire face,” added Dr. Hooper. ”If you only do spot treatments, then the patient’s face will end up looking irregular. The entire face needs attention when performing facial rejuvenation.”

The full face narrative involves a variety of aesthetic treatments used to establish individual patient treatment plans. ”No two Restylane products are alike,” explained Ms. Caulkins. ”They are complementary to each other, to redefine facial symmetry and balance. Particularly with our XpresHAn Technology, we bring natural-looking results to patients with a broad range of needs across multiple areas of the face. It’s also part of an ongoing trend where it’s no longer about just one treatment area, but addressing needs in many places as patients continue to age, as part of their upkeep. A great example of this is pairing Restylane Contour for the cheeks with Restylane Defyne for the chin. Both achieve facial proportion but are treatments for different areas of the face. Ultimately, we want to encourage our customers to cross-leverage amazing treatments for their patients to create the best results.”

Dr. Hooper agreed. ”I think practitioners understand the value of addressing the full face. Galderma is one company leading this trend, by getting more indications for its products. The industry is doing a good job of educating patients about how to look at the different areas of the face, to realize what areas to augment. It’s part of a trend in aesthetics, which incorporates health and wellness in an aesthetic treatment plan. We are moving toward a more holistic approach. I think people understand how life works. Nothing is standalone. It’s all combination treatments, and the more indications the better.”

Celebrating a Milestone and Continued Partnership

Galderma’s dedication to practice support, training, and education has helped elevate the Restylane family as the brand of choice, stated Ms. Caulkins. ”We work with aesthetic professionals to normalize aesthetic procedures by making their patients feel confident with their results. We base our commitment to excellence in the market on the principle that our customer’s patient satisfaction is our responsibility too.”

Dr. Durairaj noted, ”Galderma has always been there to educate me. I think they excel at training, with programs that emphasize anatomy and injection skills. It takes a lot of money, ambition, and integrity to ensure that aesthetics stay focused on these important goals. It has been wonderful working with Galderma.”

As Galderma celebrates this monumental milestone, the innovation doesn’t seem to stop. Ms. Caulkins ended with, ”It has had an incredibly bright past, and with over 50 million treatments and counting delivered worldwide, Restylane is a brand you can trust. We are now looking forward to a truly brilliant future helping to reveal the inner light of millions of more people.”
